Where are the webbing used on bags?

Backpacks, travel bags, handbags, tool bags and storage bags all use webbing, but their roles are different. Some are mainly load-bearing shoulder straps, some are drawstrings to tighten the bag mouth, and some are just for trimming, decoration or external fixation. Different positions, thickness, feel and sewing method should not use the same set of specifications.

As long as it is used with tri-glide buckles, D rings, buckles, adjustment buckles or metal hardware, you must also look at the inner diameter of the buckle, the thickness of the webbing and the total thickness after folding. In many cases, it's not that the width is wrong, but that the buckle slides too tightly, too loosely, or it's difficult to ride after being folded back.

The first inquiry talks about these items first

It doesn’t matter if you haven’t decided on the material yet. First make it clear where the straps will be installed, whether they will be load-bearing, what hardware you plan to use with them, and whether they have a promising feel or appearance. This information makes it easier to get the quote closer to the actual mass-produced version than just asking "how much does 25mm webbing cost?"

Purpose Shoulder straps, handles, hems, drawstrings, luggage fixing, external accessories.
Width Please provide millimeter specifications and confirm whether it needs to match the hardware inner diameter.
Thickness and feel Affects load-bearing, softness, sewing and adjusting buckle sliding smoothness.
Color Color cards, Pantone, fabric swatches or samples of existing products are available.
Finishing Cutting, cutting, sewing, punching, printing, assembling or packaging as specified.

Materials and processing should be looked at together

Nylon webbing is mostly used for straps or outdoor bags that value wear resistance and feel; PP straps are lightweight and cost-effective, and are commonly used in general drawstrings, packaging handles, and storage accessories; polyester straps can be evaluated based on color stability and durability. No one material is necessarily the best. The key is who the product is sold to, where it is used, and what conditions it has to withstand.

Processing should also be done from the very beginning. Hot cutting will affect the appearance of the end, sewing will affect the thickness and strength of the fold, and printing will affect the bottom tape selection and delivery time. If the prepared webbing will be handed over to a bag maker for installation, the cutting tolerance and packaging method must be discussed first, otherwise it will be easy to rework in the later stages.

Practical Note

For new bag models, you can first use "usage location + target width + hardware size + appearance direction" to inquire; for existing products, please directly attach photos or samples. The photo captures the ends of hardware, folding, and sewing, and is usually faster to focus on than a large paragraph of text.

FAQ

How to choose the common width of luggage straps?

You can first evaluate based on load-bearing, appearance proportions and buckle width. Small bags usually choose narrower specifications, while backpacks and travel bags choose wider specifications based on shoulder comfort and load-bearing requirements.

Can I get a direct estimate if I already have a sample?

You can first provide sample photos, width, thickness, material, color, quantity and processing method. If accurate comparison is required, it is recommended to provide physical samples or color cards.
